Eight years ago, a group of young Detroit entrepreneurs teamed up to create a version of
New York’s famed New Year’s Eve Times Square celebration for Detroit.
This event was initially created as the premier bookend to the holiday season, which Detroit kicks off
with the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, followed by the tree lighting at Campus Martius.
The DROP now rounds these out with a grand finale.

From the beginning, we felt it was vitally important to give Detroit and the
surrounding metropolitan area a proper venue for celebrating the New Year with style, substance,
and a healthy dose of that famous Detroit spirit.
